Mireille Tabib, mediator
Mireille Tabib is a former Associate Judge of the Federal Court. In her 20 years at the Court, she has conducted hundreds of mediations in commercial litigation, with particular emphasis on maritime law and intellectual property disputes, but also across all areas of jurisdiction of the Federal Court. She has earned a reputation as a skilled, thoughtful and effective mediator.
Prior to her appointment as an Associate Judge in 2003, Ms. Tabib practiced maritime and insurance law at Stikeman Elliott in Montréal.
Ms. Tabib is based in Ottawa, and provides mediation services in person or by videoconference, anywhere in Canada and abroad.
Experience
Mireille Tabib was appointed an Associate Judge of the Federal Court in 2003, and retired in 2023. As an Associate Judge, Ms. Tabib presided over thousands of cases, case managing actions and applications, adjudicating motions and trials, and conducting both formal mediations and informal dispute resolution conferences, from complex multi-party disputes to small claims and applications involving self represented litigants.
Ms. Tabib is known for the quality and depth of her preparation for every mediation she conducts. Her detailed grasp of the relevant facts, the depth of her legal knowledge and extensive experience of the litigation process, acquired both as a member of the Court and as a litigator, are key to her ability to assist parties in reaching an amicable resolution of their disputes. Ms. Tabib’s approach to mediation is characterized by professionalism, dedication, and courteous tenacity. She is skilled at identifying the parties’ underlying needs and in finding creative and practical solutions to address them.
